About the Governor-General’s Diaspora Award

The Governor-General’s Jamaica Diaspora Award for Excellence was created in 2008 and forms part of the Governor-General’s Achievement Awards Scheme Programme, which has been in existence since 1991.

The award is presented biennially to Jamaicans living in the United Kingdom, USA and Canada, who have demonstrated active and significant service towards the development of their community of residence, and to the development of Jamaica.

Prior to 2015 only one person was awarded per country.  In 2015, awards were presented in the age group categories 18 – 35 years and over 35 years.  This was witnessed by hundreds of delegates during the Sixth Biennial Diaspora Conference held on June 16th at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, Montego Bay, St. James, Jamaica.
