Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen was among those who paid tribute to the Honourable Gordon “Butch” Stewart, OJ, CD at the Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church in St Andrew, earlier today (Friday, January 8, 2020).
In expressing his condolences to the Stewart family, His Excellency wrote, “Lady and I join with our staff at King’s House and all Jamaica to mourn the loss of a mentor, entrepreneur and visionary Jamaican – one who believed in himself, his country and the great potential resident in us Jamaicans. He will be sorely missed.”
Through the Sandals Foundation, Mr. Stewart had been a committed sponsor to the Governor-General’s Programme for Excellence (GGPE). His contributions to the Programme have helped to inspire and energise young Jamaicans to pursue tertiary education while enabling them to play their part in community renewal and development.
