The Governor-General’s Achievement Awards reaches an unprecedented milestone, showcasing the best in community service, leadership, and academics in Jamaica
In a remarkable show of community spirit, the Governor-General’s Achievement Awards (GGAA) has received an astounding 700 nominations this year, shattering all previous records. The prestigious awards program, launched in 1991, recognizes exceptional Jamaicans who excel in areas of leadership and academics while actively leading change in their communities despite facing challenges.
National Coordinator for the Governor-General’s Programme for Excellence (GGPE), Mr. Abrahim Simmonds, expressed his excitement about this year’s response: “The overwhelming number of nominations is a testament to the incredible work being done by Jamaicans in their communities. We are truly inspired by the dedication, resilience, and passion these nominees demonstrate. This year’s GGAA will undoubtedly shine a spotlight on the remarkable individuals making a difference across our nation.”
This year’s vast pool of nominees demonstrates the diverse range of talents and abilities that make up Jamaica’s vibrant communities. From tireless educators to innovative social entrepreneurs, the 700 nominees are a testament to the power of collective action in addressing society’s most pressing challenges. The GGAA selection committee, comprised of esteemed community leaders and industry experts, now has the daunting task of evaluating the nominations and selecting the deserving awardees.
The record number of nominations reflects a growing awareness of the importance of community involvement and collaboration in Jamaica. The GGAA is a powerful reminder that we can all make a difference by working together to build stronger communities and create a brighter future for everyone.
