Since its inception in 2008, the Governor-General’s Achievement Awards – Diaspora (GGAA-D) has recognised and celebrated the outstanding contributions of members of the Jamaican diaspora. Initially focused on three countries; Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States, the programme has highlighted the remarkable efforts of over 80 recipients who have positively impacted their local communities and Jamaica as a whole.
This year, 2026, marks an exciting expansion of the awards programme as we prepare to extend its reach to other regions worldwide. The call from Jamaicans in the diaspora has been heard, and the Governor-General’s Programme for Excellence is eager to identify and honour individuals who exemplify dedication and service.
For this year, we are awarding only two recipients: one for nominees under 35 years of age and another for those aged 35 and older. The awards will be open to applicants residing in Mainland Europe, Asia and the Pacific, Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Middle East.
We also aim to streamline the process for future, with plans to include more recipients whether by region or country. This approach will ensure a broader and more equitable recognition of the diverse contributions across the diaspora.
Interested individuals can apply by clicking the link below, which will direct you to the application portal. Please note that the criteria for eligibility remain unchanged:
- The applicant must be Jamaican by birth, descent, registration, marriage, or naturalisation.
- For those under 35, a minimum of ten (10) years of meaningful contribution to the development of Jamaica or a Jamaican community in the diaspora is required.
- The contribution must be in the public’s interest.
- The applicant should have demonstrated, through initiative or voluntary activities, a positive impact on a significant number of members within the Jamaican community.
- Contributions and achievements must have been made while acting as a private citizen; participation as an appointed or elected government official disqualifies the applicant.
- The applicant must not have previously received a Jamaican National Honour or the Governor-General’s Achievement Award.
We invite all eligible individuals to consider this prestigious opportunity to be recognised for their dedication and service. Together, let us celebrate those who continue to make a difference in the development of Jamaica and its global community.
Applications are open from Monday 13th April – Friday 1st May 2026.
Deadline for submission is Friday 1st May 2026 at 11:59PM local time.
