Their Excellencies Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen and the Most Honourable Lady Allen, hosted the 3rd I Believe Initiative (IBI) Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday 1st May 2022 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.
In his Remarks, The Governor-General highlighted the work of IBI Ambassadors who, despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, were “leading projects within their various communities under the pillars of ‘Youth’, ‘Family’ and ‘Education’.
With 340 Ambassadors participating in the Programme both locally and overseas, Sir Patrick emphasized the importance of their commitment “to continue working closely with us to bridge new ideas and resources that can help to scale all our interventions to even more Jamaicans.”
In delivering his Year in Review, National Coordinator for The Governor-General’s Programme for Excellence (GGPE), Abrahim Simmonds commended the IBI Ambassadors for their impactful work and encouraged them to increase their engagement as the country emerged from the pandemic.
Mr Simmonds stressed the need for continued dedication to social programmes and volunteer initiatives. He urged the Ambassadors to continue mobilizing resources to improve output in order to effect positive change.
The AGM provided an opportunity for the Ambassadors to ‘pitch’ their business ideas for a chance to win tablets for their charitable work. Mr Sheldon Millington, Director of House of SDM, an Organization dedicated to advancing health, education, employment, human rights and community development, received five (5) tablets from IBI sponsorship partner, FLOW.
The Governor-General’s Programme for Excellence (GGPE) provides coordination for the I Believe Initiative, now in its 11th year, and the long-standing Governor-General’s Achievement Awards, which is celebrating its 30thAnniversary this year. The GGPE forms part of The Governor-General’s Social Programme, and is founded on the principle of ‘Using what is right with Jamaica to fix what is wrong with Jamaica”.
